ARTICLE: TIPS TO BE KIND TO YOURSELF

Self-kindness refers to acting in kind and understanding ways towards ourselves. A sense of common humanity is the recognition that everyone makes mistakes and no one is without their weaknesses. Accepting that we are not alone in our suffering comforts us with feelings of inclusivity rather than alienation. Self-compassion is also associated with less selfcriticism, depression, anxiety, fear of failure, Importantly, to reap the benefits of self-compassion, we don’t need to compare ourselves to others or inflate our egos. Thus, self-compassion can lead to greater emotional resilience, since unlike self-esteem, our heightened feelings of self-worth will not be contingent on our successes. Consider the ways you care for yourself when things are going well (such as exercising, being with friends, listening to music). Do your best to incorporate some of these ways into your life during difficult times. The mental training of relating to ourselves with compassion begins with getting some distance from ourselves.

1) SPEND SOME TIME FOR YOURSELF

  •   When you are alone you can take time to become involved in activities that you really enjoy          with no pressure as to how well you perform them.
  •   If you want to paint your house, paint a picture, design something, write something, invent            something.
  •   Spend quiet time allowing your imaginative genius freedom to explore possibilities.
  •   It can certainly give you a much better understanding of how you truly feel about things going      on in your life.
  •   You get a feel for yourself, who you are and where you fit in the world.
  •   This brings self-confidence.
  •   If you spend time alone, you find out more about yourself.
  •   You will emerge with less stress, less weighing on your mind and the satisfaction of a job well       done.

2)  BE BOLD TO YOURSELF

We want to see our skills, relationships, and careers grow and improve.

If we want to have any hope of achieving these goals, we must be willing to            live boldly.

We don’t have to worry about instability or insecurity.

To be bold, you have to be different from most people.

We all get the amazing opportunity to be ourselves.

Bold people aren’t always right, but they stand behind themselves and the              decisions they make.

Believing in ourselves and our ability to overcome challenges is the                        foundation of a bold life.

3)  CULTIVATE YOUR INNER ADVOCATE

  • With the challenges and daily struggles life brings, your inner voice may get  the best of you, and start to take over.
  • A great exercise to complete every time those negative thoughts or voices enter your head is to write down what was going on.
  • Let your emotions guide you to better understand what is going on in your life.
  • The best way to combat a critical inner voice is to replace it with a positive inner voice.
  • Channeling negative energy into a more positive conversation instead allows you to focus on your strengths and weaknesses more objectively.

4)  TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOURSELF

One of the best ways to show yourself kindness is to take good care of                    yourself.

Get enough sleep, eat fruits and vegetables, and get some form of exercise              on  a regular basis.

In addition, choose a way to release stress, be well groomed, and look after            your appearance.

Remember to congratulate yourself for any successes.

Consider your interests, things that bring you joy and things that keep you              motivated.

Find ways to relax, like meditation, yoga, getting a massage, taking a bath or          walking in the woods.

Manage stress and go for regular medical check-ups.
